Mark Roger
Baker
Jun 14, 1955 — Oct 15, 2026
Canandaigua
Mark Roger Baker, 71, passed away on October 15, 2026, following a long struggle with renal disease. He was surrounded by family in Canandaigua, New York, as he went to be with the Lord.
Born on June 14, 1955, in Melrose, Massachusetts, Mark was the son of Roger Baker and Beverly Harmon Baker.
He dedicated much of his life to serving others through emergency medical services and the fire service. His career began as an EMT with Lambs Ambulance, where he served from 1981 to 1983. On October 17, 1983, he began what would become a long and meaningful career as a firefighter and paramedic with Caribou Fire and Ambulance in northern Maine. He attended the paramedic program at Northern Maine Community College and continued serving the community for more than 26 years, retiring on April 19, 2010.
For Mark, this work was more than a profession. It was a commitment to showing up when people needed help most. Through countless calls and years of service, he was part of a profession built on courage, compassion, and dedication to others. His contributions to emergency medical services were formally recognized on May 22, 2007, when he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the State of Maine EMS Board.
Mark’s dedication to his community extended beyond his career. He served with Ski Patrol at Big Rock in Mars Hill, Maine, and was a leader with the Boy Scouts of America. Whether responding to an emergency or lending a hand to a friend, Mark found purpose in being there for others.
Even after retirement, Mark continued to serve. While living in St. Petersburg, Florida, he volunteered with the St. Petersburg Police Department, extending his lifelong commitment to public service into a new chapter of his life.
Outside of his service, Mark enjoyed meeting new people, hearing their stories, and sharing a few of his own. He had a gift for making connections, and his friendships spanned communities and states throughout his life.
Mark shared 44 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ann. Together, they built a life rich in family, friendship, adventure, and new experiences. Following his retirement in Maine, they continued their journey together, living in Tampa, Florida; Warner Robins, Georgia; St. Petersburg, Florida, and Ocala Florida before settling in Canandaigua, New York, to be closer to family.
Above all else, family was the center of Mark’s world, and his grandchildren were the heart of his life. He treasured the time they spent together, finding immense joy in watching them grow and being part of their lives. His love for them was among his greatest joys, and the memories they made together will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Mark lived with a spirit of adventure and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. An avid motorcyclist, he was a member of several motorcycle clubs, including Red Knights MC, Pine State MC, and Defenders MC, where he held lifetime membership. Through these communities, he formed lasting friendships and shared countless adventures. He also enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, and canoeing, with the Allagash Waterway holding a special place.
Mark was also a talented craftsman and the owner of Baker Signs, a handcrafted sign business in Caribou, Maine. His creativity and skill left a lasting mark throughout northern Maine, where many of his signs can still be seen today.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his sons and daughters-in-law, Justin (Jennifer) and Matthew (Lauren); his cherished grandchildren, Cora, Henry, Chloe, and Sawyer; brothers, Darrick (Vanessa) and Matthew; his half-sister, Judy; brother-in-law, Richard MacNaughton (Marianne); aunt Barb; uncle Dale; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his stories will continue to be told, his adventures remembered, and the love he shared carried forward by those fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held in Caribou, Maine, in 2027. Further details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund in Mark’s memory.
