IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul F.
Mooney
July 1, 1964 – May 3, 2024
Paul Mooney of Rochester at age 59, after a long battle with mental illness and addiction. Paul was born on July 1,1964 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, NY and is now at peace in the arms of Jesus.
Paul was welcomed into heaven by his mother, Vita Mariella and his father, James Mooney. He is survived by his sister Lisa (Martin) Finnegan of Walworth and his brother Timothy (Lidia) Mooney of Little Elm, TX; stepmother Peggy Mooney of Fort Myers, FL, nephews John (Melissa, and their daughter Nora), Connor, and Ryan Finnegan, Nikolas (Melissa) and Giancarlo Mooney, and niece Isabella Mooney. Paul is also survived by aunts Maureen Reid of Rockville Centre and Theresa Mariella of Blue Point, several cousins and many friends.
Paul was a 1982 graduate of Rush-Henrietta Roth High School where he participated in football and wrestling; he continued to wrestle in college. Paul earned his associate's degree at Herkimer Community College and completed his degree in Physical Education at SUNY Cortland; he taught Physical Education for twelve years in the Rochester City School District. Combining his love of children and his passion for athletics, Paul's light shone brightest as the varsity wrestling coach at East High School where he made a positive, lasting impact on many of his student athletes. Paul was a two-time Section V City-Catholic Varsity Wrestling Coach of the Year awardee. More recently, he worked in the fitness and hospitality fields in the Long Island and Rochester areas. Paul enjoyed playing recreational softball and being part of a team. He loved spending time with friends and family and they enjoyed his company and sense of humor. He was extremely intelligent, loved to talk and enjoyed meeting new people. Paul was a NY Mets fan, a huge Buffalo Bills fan, and a member of Bills Mafia.
The family would like to express their gratitude for all who have loved and supported Paul throughout his journey.
