Richard
Webb
Jul 14, 1932 — Oct 19, 2026
Rochester
Richard "Dick" Webb passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026 at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his parents, Velmer and Leona Webb, and his wife of 64 years, Theresa "Tess" Webb. He is survived by daughter Valerie "Annie" (Bill) Wroblewski, Sister-in-law Marilyn (Jim) Sokalski and several neices, nephews, and cousins as well as his granddog and grandhorses.
Richard was born July 14, 1932 in Amsterdam, NY. He graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1950 and from Union College in 1954 with a BS degree in chemistry.
One night in Amsterdam he gave Theresa a ride home from Russo's Grill and that was the beginning of a life with his beloved Tessie. Dick and Tess were married on October 17, 1954 and spent very little time apart after that. Tess even went with Dick to Aberdeen, Maryland where he was stationed in the Army chemistry labs in 1956.
Eastman Kodak Company hired Richard right after college and he moved to Rochester, NY in 1954 with Tess joining him after they married. He worked at Kodak his entire career starting in the organic and synthetic chemicals division labs, where he was credited with two patents, and eventually becoming supervisor of the gelatine division. Everyone who worked for him said that he was wonderful boss. He took early retirement in 1984.
Dick and Tess started a family in 1956, adopting a shelter puppy, then having a daughter, Annie, in 1958. They lived in Greece until a few years after Dick retired when they moved to Irondequoit where they built a new home on the edge of Durand Eastman Park.
Dick had many interests. He loved animals, especially dogs, music, working on cars, fixing things, fishing and most of all his family and friends. For many years he and his best fishing buddy would make an annual trip to the Adirondack Mountains where they rented a cabin and fished the Ausable River. For months after that they would regale everyone with stories about their trip and then they would start planning next year's trip.
Once Dick was retired he and Tess drove all over the northeastern United States. They loved visiting historical sites like Civil War battlefields as well as peaceful ocean vacations to Maine or the Outer Banks. In winter they travelled with friends on cross-country skiing vacations, even visiting the Trapp Family Lodge and meeting Maria von Trapp which was quite a thrill.
Dick spent the last few years of his life at Creekstone Memory Care where he charmed everyone on the staff with his sweet smile and easy-going disposition.
From daughter Annie – To say that my parents were wonderful people seems a great understatement. They showed me what a true partnership is. They encouraged me in everything I did always saying "you can do anything you put your mind to." Dad's love of music, especially folk music, instilled that same love in me and they proudly attended many of our band's performances.
When asked what to say about Dad, a long-time family friend and Kodak colleague said "Your father was a genuinely nice, kind person who had respect for everyone." That says it all.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Richard's name to Rochester Presbyterian Home (Creekstone), 256 Thurston Road, Rochester, NY 14619 or First Baptist Church of Macedon, 58 W Main St, Macedon, NY 14502.
