Obituary

William “Bill” E. Wheeler, of Sodus, NY, passed away on January 5, 2026, as the result of a stroke.

He was born on November 2, 1939, in Ricard, New York, to the late Kenneth and Mildred (Sparks) Wheeler. He was predeceased by his sisters, Josephine (James) VanWinkle, Charlotte Wheeler, Doris Wheeler, and Joyce Wheeler; and by his brothers, Kenneth Wheeler (Beverly) and Herbert (Gisela) Wheeler.

William was a graduate of Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (APW), Class of 1958, where he proudly served as salutatorian of his class. He went on to graduate from Clarkson University with a degree in engineering. On June 30, 1960, he married the love of his life, Patricia Schumaker. Together, they shared 65 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, and devotion.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Schumaker) Wheeler, and their children: Michael (Debbie) Wheeler, Mark (Cindy) Wheeler, Michelle (Brett) Fontaine, Matthew Wheeler, and Mellissa (Marc) Youngman; sisters Janice (Bob) Oakes and Peggy (Bob) Kennedy as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 1:00 p.m. at the Williamstown Fire Barn located at 575 State Route 13, Williamstown, NY. Family and friends are invited to bring stories and memories to share over a meal. All are welcome, and guests are encouraged to bring a dish to pass.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a fund that will be established to support Patricia’s ongoing daily living needs. Bill lovingly devoted the last 12+ years of his life to taking care of his wife after she suffered a severe stroke that left her disabled. Donations can be written in Patricia’s name and mailed to PO Box 133, Palmyra, NY 14522 in care of Michelle Fontaine. Venmo will also be accepted in care of his daughter Mellissa. The family appreciates the support.
