Darnell "Darnie" Jean Gibbs

Canandigua: Age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. She was born July 22,1947 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, to Ralph and Dorothy Pierce. Darnell graduated from Oyster River H.S., Durham, NH, Class of 1965. Darnell joined the army after high school. After the military she went on to marry and have 5 children. She maintained a 30 year career, as a live in home care provider for six elderly psychiatric patients; working closely with her mother-in-law for many of those years. She then went on to work at the Canandaigua Medical Group until her retirement.
Darnell loved life. She lived every day to the fullest. She loved playing scrabble & cribbage with her sister April, and shopping at the Wind Mill with her other sister Brenda. She also enjoyed playing bingo, trivial pursuit, and dominos with friends and family. She was excellent at puzzles and crossword puzzle solving. Darnell crocheted up a storm, whether it was creating a beautiful baby blanket, afghan or her famous scrubbers. She enjoyed making a gift for any, and everyone, that could be enjoyed for a lifetime. Darnell had many friends she enjoyed and cherished. She had a huge heart that she wore on her sleeve. Darnell filled so many lives with smiles, giggles, and was happy to lend an open ear. She will be deeply missed. Until we meet again you will forever be in our hearts.

Darnell is predeceased by her parents; brother Harlan Pierce, and niece Heidi Pierce. She is survived by her 2 sisters April Parson and Brenda LaSante; 5 children, David Gibbs, Tracey Coon, Melody Erb, Kerri Gibbs, and Daniel Gibbs; grandchildren, Clinton Coon, Justin Coon, Kyle Gibbs, Derrick Gibbs, Halie Johnson, Christopher Gordon, Chloe Erb, Olivia Gibbs, Chase Ames, Ian Ames, Eliana Gibbs, and Ari Gibbs; great grandchildren, Ethan Coon and Courtney Coon; with 3 more on their way.
