Donald W. Raw Sr. passed peacefully on October 10, 2023, at age 94.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Dorice (Stocker) Raw; daughter, Kim (Kevin) Kulik; daughter-in-law, Marlies Raw; son-in-law, Ken Holder; nine cherished grandchildren: Jimmy (Dani) Beach, Christopher Raw, Haley (Alex) Leach, Evan (Marguerite) Raw, Kailee Kulik, Taylor (Laura) Kulik, Nathan (Jasmeen Rajpal) Raw; Shannon (Wendi) Holder, Tim Holder and great grandchildren, Breanna Holder and Benjamin Beach. Don is predeceased by his beloved son and daughter, Donald W. Raw, Jr. and Terri Beach-Holder.
Don (a.k.a. Coogan), born in Browns Valley, MN, faithfully served 20 years in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and Deep Sea Diver. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired from active military duty in 1968 as a Chief Petty Officer. Don continued his career as a civil servant working at the VA Hospital in Buffalo, NY, retiring as a Urology Technician in 1986. Don led a life of service to others. He was a Mason for 63 years, a member of the Fleet Reserve and American Legion, a church deacon, and a past member of the Ismailia Shriners in Buffalo. Often called “The Mayor,” Don had an outgoing personality, an infectious charm, and a giving heart. He was a friend to all!
Don’s “Celebration of Life” service will be held on Veteran’s Day, Saturday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 via livestream (www.Canandaiguachurch.org). Private interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Advent House Comfort Care Home, 1010 Mosley Road, Fairport, NY 14450 or a charity of one’s choice.
