Ethel H. Shannon
Canandaigua: 96, formerly of Cuba, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at Ontario Center in Hopewell. Born September 4, 1923, in Pittston, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Hilda "McAndrew" Murphy. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Shannon and only daughter Marie Sullivan.
Ethel worked for many years at Cuba Memorial Hospital as an aide before retiring in the late 1980’s. She was also a long time member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Cuba. Ethel enjoyed traveling with friends, doing crossword puzzles, listening to music, watching Jeopardy, and spending time with family. Ethel also loved riding her exercise bike and other daily exercises. She continued to marvel everyone with her daily routine and independence, as well as her unwavering cheery disposition and kindness to all she encountered. All who met Ethel were touched by her gentle spirit and gracious heart. She will be missed by her family and friends both near and far.
Ethel leaves behind a wonderful legacy including her grandson Steven Sullivan, granddaughter Katie (Eugene) McFarland, and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Amelia McFarland, her sisters Marion Faile, and Jean Marie Murphy, two brothers, Joseph and Thomas Murphy and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel. There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
